VIÐ

VIÐ is a beautifully illustrated book with an important message about acceptance, courage and the richness that comes with living in an increasingly multicultural society. VIÐ deals with issues of immigration and Icelandic as a second language through the experiences of four girls (three who have grown up together and one immigrant girl who shows up at their school one day).

What does it mean to be “us”? What makes us “us” and how does that change when someone new joins the group? VIÐ is 26 pages long and is suitable for children who are learning to read, ages 6–8, although the message is suitable for children of all ages.

Snúlli lærir um virðingu

Snúlli lærir um virðingu is the latest book in the Snúlli series. Snúlli is a philosophical character who teaches children to think about things from different perspectives and strengthens critical thinking, an important skill from a young age.

This time Snúlli ponders respect. What does it mean to show respect? Who should we show respect to? Why? And most importantly: is respect only something we show to others, or can we also show respect to ourselves, nature, places or things?

Snúlli lærir um virðingu is a book for children aged 6–10, although as with the previous Snúlli books, both children and adults of all ages have connected with the message of the books. Previous books in the series have been used in kindergartens and primary schools, both for reading and literacy.

The book is 58 pages, in landscape A4 format, with large print and large, colorful and attractive pictures.

Snúlli lærir um virðingu is also available in English here

When the author Helen Hafgnýr Cova, writer of the beloved Snúlli books, discovered Hekla’s storytelling and illustration abilities—along with her love for Snúlli—she knew that this fan-story had to be shared.
Now readers can enjoy this beautiful contribution from Hekla to the world of Snúlli.
At Karíba, we believe that every child has the power to bring stories to life in new and exciting ways.

Hekla Rós Gunnarsdóttir Daniel loves writing stories.
“Writing is a kind of tradition in my family, because every Christmas, since I was born, my parents write stories for me and my siblings about our dream adventures. And my mom is writing a book for adults called I Spin.
I am very happy that I got this opportunity to write a story with Snúlli, and I am honored to be able to write stories at my age. I am only 10 years old and I am writing my second book, which will be published soon.

Oftast eru bækur að reyna að segja þér eitthvað, bókin mín er líka að reyna að segja þér eitthvað. Hún er að segja þér svona - ekki gefast upp á draumunum þínum og ekki láta neitt stoppa þig. Og að enginn getur stoppað þig allt þitt líf“
